Luteinising hormone (LH) is a hormone whose levels vary cyclically with a woman’s menstrual cycle, and its role is to stimulate the release of mature eggs from the ovaries. Luteinising hormone (LH) is produced in small amounts in normal women and increases sharply in the middle of the menstrual cycle, creating an LH spike that stimulates the release of the mature egg, or ovulation, within the next 24-36 hours. Women are most likely to conceive within 1 to 3 days of the LH peak, therefore, testing the presence of LH in the urine can be used to predict the time of ovulation and can effffectively predict the time of conception.
